The PARA POET - The Men from the Skies

"Bob Cole writes from the soul as only someone who has been there can.

His poems tell of the struggle to become a Paratrooper, of his acquisition of knowledge and skills… that he would later need to stay alive. Bob tells of how he survived the devastating bombs of the IRA, how he fought for his life ‘Down South‘ throughout the Falkland Islands War and later still in Iraq.

Pressing a button to fire rockets, from a drone/aircraft or artillery/tank shells, kills people for sure. But the experience of the infantryman is close up. When you are so close that those who you kill spill their blood onto you, and when he that is trying to kill you only gets stopped by your bayonet and‚ you feel the very last twitch of that ‘son of a bitch‘ as your bayonet pierces deep through his heart; then you have been through Hell’s dark door!

Bob proudly served his country, and lost many good friends and comrades on the streets and in the mud and in the sand where he served, and he remembers every single one. He wears his medals with pride, knowing the true cost of peace, as only a soldier who has had to kill to stay alive understands.

Bob tells of his love of his country, his devotion to the Parachute Regiment, specifically 2 Para. He tells of his love for his wife Sue and their dog/s and how he honours his Mother and Father to this day.

That’s not very trendy I know, but it’s how we Warriors are.

I know Bob’s words to be true for I was at his side in our darkest hour.
