"The love affair with our four-legged friends started for Sue and me some miles away in that troubled land; to be more precise I had just started a two and a half year tour of Northern Ireland based in Ballykinler County Down.

It was a cold November day when a small, black, bundle of fur was placed into my arms. It had been retrieved by an Airborne Brother of mine from a pet shop in Downpatrick for the vast sum of five pounds. We would call him Biggsal, a take on my wife's maiden name of Biggs (no relation to Ronnie!) who would live with us for many years and become our rock.

Biggsal was our first, and we have had many after him. This first book of poems is a tribute to all those that have shared their lives with us over the years. I then expanded to the work that you will find in the pages of this book... the many experiences whilst walking with my friends in the leafy lanes and tracks and on the Ridge here in the wonderful county of Kent."
